Weekend Project: Recreate the ambience of your favorite place in your home

courtyard garden I’m always fascinated about beautiful gardens, a walk in the park, al fresco dining or having a coffee break in a nice cafe’.

Oftentimes, the ambience of the place makes every meal, wine or coffee extra special. For instance, an ordinary sandwich prepared at home is always more enjoyable when we eat it at the park. The same coffee from your favorite coffee shop seems more special when you have a sip in the outdoor table of your favorite cafe’. The ambience creates a mood, which can either be vibrant or relaxing depending on the venue’s theme.

So why not re-create the same ambience in your home? There’s no need to do a total makeover. You can start in one area of your home. One example is updating the decor and accessories in your kitchen to simulate the look of your favorite restaurant. You’ll be surprised how a table cloth, center piece and the right set of tableware can set the mood for a great dining experience. In time, depending on your budget, you can change the lights, paint a different color and add some wall decor to compliment the overall theme.

Another weekend project you can do is to create a small retreat in your own backyard; a place where you can relax or hangout with your family or friends. It could be as simple as planting some shrubs or trees that doubles as privacy screens. You could also scour the garage sales, flea market or online auctions such as eBay for some great outdoor furniture. You can put it in one corner of your garden to create an entertaining area, a reading nook or even a craft area for you and your kids. If your time and budget permits, you can pave one area to create a small patio.

There are so many weekend projects we can do to re-create that special place in our home. I hope you enjoy reading these handy tips. With the rising cost of petrol, it pays to make some mini-improvements in your home, so you can enjoy it as much as you enjoy driving to your favorite hangout.
