It is amazing how these architectural wonders were built, conceptualized and immortalized by their respective countries. I’ve personally seen the Colosseum, Eiffel Tower, Pyramids Of Giza, Statue of Liberty, Stonehenge and the Sydney Opera House. Among those I’ve seen, my favorite was the Pyramids of Giza. Aside from its unique architecture, it is a place rich in history and culture. I was actually in total awe when I visited the Pyramids of Giza. It was like being transported back in time. The people are still wearing the same clothes as Jesus wore, they still use donkeys and the whole area is like an open air museum. Visiting the Pyramids of Giza is truly worth the experience.
Meanwhile, I was a bit disappointed with the Stonehenge. It looked smaller than what I expected it to be. It is still massive and unique, but it’s not enough to mesmerize me as a visitor. It was good to see it because of its popularity but I would not recommend it as one of the top places to visit in the world.
The Eiffel Tower on one hand is the most famous telecom tower. It compliments the romantic ambience of Paris. However, there is more to see in Paris than the Eiffel Tower. Paris is a place full of surprises such as the Louvre, Monte Marte, Arch de Triomphe and the Notre Dame. To add, there are other popular towers in other countries that have their own unique structures too…so I would not really call it a wonder of the world.
The Statue of Liberty is symbolic and an icon in New York, but I would not exactly classify it as a wonder of the world. The Colosseum in Rome has a very rich history but it is just one of the many Colosseum built by the Romans. The Sydney Opera House has a unique architectural design and sits perfectly by the harbour. It is a famous landmark that can be referred to as the national ID of Australia to the world. If I can vote for more than 7 wonders of the world, I would vote for it.
There are so many great candidates that it is hard to narrow it down to just seven. So what makes a place worthy of being called a wonder of the world? They have a criteria for candidacy. Personally, I would vote for something greater than being just a landmark. I would consider the uniqueness of its architecture, history, the way it was built, cultural significance or motivation of the civilization who built the structure. Having said that, I will need more time to evaluate the candidates before I can vote for my 7 wonders of the world.
